Latest 5-star review of American Boys... Anybody reading it this weekend? As a kid growing up during the Vietnam War, I remember watching Walter Cronkite deliver the evening news. Louise Esola new book American Boys: The True Story of the lost 74 of the Vietnam War, brings back memories of watching war footage and seeing the daily body counts being reported. She provides vivid details of life on board the Evans, shares stories of some of the men who were from places like the farms of Nebraska or New York City. She provides details about the discipline of the Navy at the time. But her book goes deeper by providing insight into the culture of the 1960s, the anti-war movement, Bob Dylan and of course Presidents Johnson and Nixon. Just an amazingly well researched book and a writing style that is very engaging.
