Latest op-ed for the The Jewish Daily Forward says: But Conservative Jews could be to the modern world what Chabad-Lubavitch is to the traditional: a center of exuberant outreach. I honestly believe that every step any Jew takes towards connecting with the Jewish people and our heritage is beautiful. I dont theres a race in the Jewish world to say who has more or less. Thats silly. Chabad frankly succeeds because it does what it does without looking behind its shoulder at everyone else. But I must ask: With all respect to Conservative Judaism (to which my grandmother and her friends are proud, practicing members), since when was tradition opposed to modernity? Perhaps Jane Eisner meant progressive? (Not exactly a term I like, but one I can live with.) *cough* more twitter followers than Chancellor Eisen and JTS et al. *cough* more facebook likes. *cough* online since before there was a world wide web.
