Latest update from Charles in Dutch Harbor, Alaska: Just wanted to wish you guys a happy 4th of July. I have been spending my 4th of July at a processing plant, pulling salmon off a conveyor belt of fish. Im still on the same vessel I was initially assigned to. Its a 180-ft trawler that is targeting pollock. The hauls have been very clean, so the work has been pretty easy. Im always on the lookout for something interesting in my sample. Ive seen a whale on every trip Ive been on so far. To date, Ive seen two humpbacks and a sperm whale (no pictures though, they move too fast). Havent seen any killer whales yet, but Im certain that I will. I havent had much free time in Dutch Harbor, but I do have plenty of free time on the boat. Im getting along with the crew really well, theyre used to having observers, so Im not having any difficulty fitting in. Ill keep you guys posted on any new stuff that comes up! Charles
