Launching Ministries For what its worth, I tried something new - TopicsExpress

Launching Ministries For what its worth, I tried something new with our Citizenship Class that made it a much stronger ministry for us. Instead of just training people and launching the class like we typically do, I had an extended time of learning for the workers on the front end, and then they taught the class to immigrants/refugees. So, we had 6 weeks (4) of guest speakers on the topic of immigration and (2) of organizational/task meetings. And then it has been 6 weeks actually teaching citizenship to immigrants/refugees. The advantages of it were: 1. We launched a ministry within a framework we already had--the small group structure. 2. Almost all of the work was off-loaded onto the guest speakers and class participants. The small group made the fliers and advertised for the class, established the class schedule, and organized themselves into a teaching team and tutors. 3. On a related note, my prep time was only about 25% of what I would typically put into a small group. All of the pre-launch work that would have been solely on me was built into our weekly meetings. 4.The team had a lot more passion heading into the ministry part of the project because they a) learned about immigration from a variety of angles from experts, and b) they were part of the creation process for the ministry. 5. Because I didnt play the role of expert, my role in the process is much more reproducible. Im fairly confident that someone else from this current group will be able to lead a similar experience in the next semester. Im eager to try this with other ministry launches, and thought I would share what Im learning.
