Leaders develop others so that they ACCOMPLISH more than them! Phil Jackson is known today as a successful coach, able to manage and lead big named players like, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille Oneal into winning championships and achieving far more than he (Jackson) achieved as a player. Many dont know but the only achievement that Phil Jackson made when he was a player for the NY Knicks, was that he led the record in the area of personal fouls in one season... He committed 330! Most unlikely player to make one of NBAs finest coaches. Im of the belief that for as long as we GENUINELY help others succeed, we too will succeed! The late Zig Ziglar gave a wonderful word picture on developing people: When a miner mines for gold, he has to literally move tons of dirt just to find an ounce of gold. But when youre mining youre not looking for the dirt, youre looking for the gold. In much the same way, when developing people we may have to remove so much dirt so we can find the gold within them. Lets not focus on the dirt - lets focus on finding the GOLD!
