Lee and Dave have arrived in India. Here is the first of many updates from them this week. Dear Friends, It’s Sunday morning in Coimbatore, South India. Dave Seemuth and I arrived yesterday after an overnight layover in Mumbai. Coimbatore, a city which boasts a population of 6.5 million people, is known as the world’s epicenter of textile manufacturing and is a hotbed for new high-tech start-ups. Nestled at the base of the beautiful Nilgiris Hills, the region is a Hindu stronghold, as is evidenced by the multitude of Hindu temples we noticed en route from the airport. It’s here that the South Asian Institute for Leadership and Cultural Studies (SAILCS) is located. Murli Menon, the founder and President of SAILCS, invited Dave and me to teach the 40-plus Indian students who reside here. Dave will teach the Book of Romans and I will teach on Expository Preaching. Later in the week we will host a Leadership Conference at the campus for 60-70 church leaders. It will be a full week. Yesterday, 6 of us took a four-mile hike into the city. We passed small shops, numerous temples (one preparing for a Hindu wedding), small homes and an abundance of coconut and mango trees. Children were playing cricket in the streets while herders maneuvered their goats in and out of traffic. Elephants are often spotted in this area and even though famers put up electric fences to deter them from destroying their crops, we saw example after example of collapsed fences, proof these sizeable creatures will get their way! Today we will gather at the campus chapel for church services. I will preach the morning message. We will enjoy a quiet day today before our busy week commences early tomorrow morning. Dave and I would covet your prayers for us—for stamina, strength and effectiveness as we teach and train. From India, we greet you! Lee and Dave
