Left us on this day (Aug. 15) in 2009: Memphis keyboardist & producer Jim Dickinson (following triple-bypass heart surgery, age 67), best remembered for his production work with a wide swath of alternative music greats, including The Replacements, Big Star, Alex Chilton & Willy DeVille; as a session musician, he played piano on such landmark songs as The Rolling Stones Wild Horses & The Flamin Groovies Teenage Head; he also worked with the likes of Bob Dylan, (1997 comeback album Time Out of Mind), Ry Cooder (some dozen albums, beginning in 1972) & The Cramps; Jim released several critically-acclaimed solo albums (beginning with the 1972 Dixie Fried) & fronted Memphis based bands, Mudboy & The Neutrons & Snake Eyes; Jims sons Luther & Cody, who played on his 2002 solo effort Free Beer Tomorrow, & the 2006 Jungle Jim and the Voodoo Tiger, have achieved success on their own as The North Mississippi Allstars…
