Left us on this day (Nov. 12) in 2008: Mitch Mitchell (in his sleep of natural causes, age 61), best remembered as the British drummer in The Jimi Hendrix Experience; coming from a jazz background, he brought a fusion sensibility to his playing as heard on all three legendary Experience albums - Axis: Bold as Love, Are You Experienced? & Electric Ladyland; his playing not only provided a rhythmic support for the music, but also a source of momentum & melody; he backed Jimi at Woodstock & peformed on several of his solo albums released posthumously (Cry of Love, Rainbow Bridge), before & after Hendrix, he was active as a studio session drummer & performing live with other musicians, including The Pretty Things, The Who, Georgie Fame, Jack Bruce Terry Reid, Jeff Beck; in 2005, Rolling Stone ranked Mitch #23 on their list of The Greatest Drummers of All Time; Mitch spent his final days celebrating Hendrixs music on the 2008 Experience Hendrix Tour, alongside Buddy Guy, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd & Eric Johnson…
