Lena Adams played by Sherri Saum A warm, beautiful woman, Lena is Stef’s lesbian partner and the “other mother” of their three children, two of whom have been adopted from the foster system. The vice principal of a local charter school, Lena is an altruistic activist who would love to save all the unloved kids in the world, and give them the support every kid deserves. When she violates her agreement with Stef and brings the needy Callie home for a “temporary” stay, she defends her decision. But when Callie disappears with their older son, Brandon, in tow, both Lena and Stef fear that Lena’s soft-heartedness may have given rise to big problems. Sherri Saum was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, and attended Ohio State University and NYU pursuing a degree in psychology. While in school, she landed her first lead role on Aaron Spelling’s serial, Sunset Beach for which she earned a Daytime Emmy Nomination for Outstanding Younger Actress. Saum continued on in her career starring in Showtime’s critically acclaimed series Beggars and Choosers, the John Cassevettes Award nominated Anne B. Real, guest starring roles on Revenge, Law & Order: Trial By Jury, Body of Proof, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Unforgettable, Army Wives, CSI: NY and Charmed among others. In 2006, Saum joined the cast of the Emmy nominated series Rescue Me starring Denis Leary for two seasons, followed by a starring role on the Golden Globe nominated HBO series In Treatment. Film roles include Ten Stories Tall opposite Josh Hamilton and Ally Sheedy and Relative Stranger starring Eriq La Salle and Cicely Tyson. Saum currently splits her time between New York City and Los Angeles with her husband and enjoys traveling and volunteering with Kusewera, an organization that teaches children in Malawi through active and creative play.
