Les was like a kid in a candy store at the A.E.S. Conventions and the NAMM Show. In case you dont know, A.E.S. stands for Audio Engineering Society and NAMM is for Nation Association of Music Merchants. I never ask Les which one he like better, but I think he had more fun at NAMM. Ive been to both and I know I enjoy NAMM more. Try and keep up with Les at either.........but it was easy to find him, he was the one with the crowd around him. The A.E.S. show appealed to him because it is a huge room full of all the newest recording stuff....recording consoles, tape machines from Studer, etc., (last time I was there, analog was still the norm at major studios laying down tracks), out board gear, microphones, everything youd want in a studio. And since Les was The father of Muti-Track recording he was interested in how far the technology has come. If you dont record and not into studio stuff, its not going to be real interesting. Namm is all the latest toys for anything related to music. New effects for guitar playing, new amps, keyboards, synths, and new stuff just invented. Every booth has stuff to play with. You will want to buy everything in the place. Its a lot of fun just to walk around. You can imagine Les seeing all these new products. Id have to frisk him for a screw driver......remember what he did to the Rockman?, He took it apart and if he had his way, hed do the same to everything in there. And, like I told Clayton, if you stay until closing on the last day, the merchants give things away, will sell demo stuff, make deals....they dont want to haul all their products home. Les Paul will forever be known for his role in the popularity of the electric guitar, the design of the Gibson Les Paul guitar, the multi track recording, the early guitar effects, and his million selling recordings with wife Mary Ford. However, did you know Les also appeared as product endorsee in more NAMM shows than just about any other artist? From the 1950s onward Les stood in the Gibson booth shaking hands and signing autographs while promoting the guitar line. In fact in 2006, after the Gibson Company purchased Baldwin Pianos, Les was at the NAMM show promoting the Les Paul Baldwin Piano
