Lesson I learned from Mahaperiyava and Pudhuperyava In 1956 - TopicsExpress

Lesson I learned from Mahaperiyava and Pudhuperyava In 1956 Mahaperiyava and Pudhuperiyava had camped at Ekambareswarar Agraharam in Mint Street. He was camping in the House of my wife’s (She was 7 year old then and I was 10 and we got married in 1967) uncle’s house (Sri. Shivashankar Mehta who later became the Mayor of Madras.) It was a huge house and it was facing temple Tank. My maternal uncle’s house was the second house to the house where Mahaperiyava was camping. I and my parents spent most of our time in Mahaperiyava’s camp. The elephant was taken for a bath and it refused to come out of the tank. Finally when Mahaperiyava came and called then only it came out of the tank. One afternoon I played Mirudhangam in front of Pudhuperiyava and till date he remembers me as Mirudhangam Giri and son of Suryanamaskaram Trivedi. (I was born on Gokulashtami day in 1946) Pudhuperiyava had fallen ill and did not give Darshan. My father was so attached to him that he was restless. After couple of days after having Darshan of Mahaperiyava My father and I were standing in a corner of the ground floor and my father was looking up hoping to have Darshan of Pudhuperiyava. After about fifteen minutes or so I asked my father shall we go. There was no response. When I looked up I saw tears rolling out of his eyes and was looking at the first floor corridor I saw Pudhuperiyava standing looking down at the devotees in the ground floor. I shook my father pulling his hand. After several attempts he looked at me wiping his tears. Later when my mother and I asked him why he cried he answered that he was seeing God Subramanya standing there with “VEL”. I am moving forward to 1985-1986 when Pudhuperiyava left the matt. Finally one day I read in The Hindu and came to know that Pudhu Periyava was in Thalai Kaveri (Kodugu). I told my wife about the news and commented “why Pudhuperiyava is behaving like this. How can he cause anxiety to Paramacharya?”. The same day evening I was outside the house with a gunny bag and my wife was standing at the door. I was trying to prevent some insects from entering the House by closing the gap in the bottom of the door with gunny bag. I was in a crouching position. When I tried to move towards my left and my wife shouted Snake. I turned towards left and saw a small cobra of about 18 inches with its Head up. I tried to move to my right side when my wife again shouted Snake. I turned towards right I saw another cobra of same size with its Head up. I saw the snakes on both my sides and I asked her to go behind so that I can jump inside. I jumped inside and closed the door and looked at the two snakes. They started to move one behind the other in a path in front of my house. As the front side was full of grass soon they disappeared. The house was inside the mill compound I called security at the gate about the snakes and soon ten workers arrived and started searching for the snake with the help of battery lights. None could find the snakes. The workers came and told me that they have never seen a cobra for years and went away.” As I entered the sitting room I remembered my father having Darshan of Pudhu Periyava in the form of God Subramanya about 30 years back. I realized my mistake and started chanting Jeya Jeya Shankara Hara Hara Shankara. I then vowed that I will never make any comment on any Gurus. Needless to say no one ever saw any cobra in the mill compound till I left the job in 1988. JEYA JEYA SHANKARA HARA HARA SHANKARA.
