Lessons in Witchcraft 4 - Important Magickal Skills - Grounding/Centring The spiritual/magickal ability to consciously release unneeded / unwanted energies as well as to be able to feel and know ones connection to the Divine. This is the first skill that anyone who uses magick must learn in order to maintain our internal energy balance. After we have released those energies that we do not need/want, we fill the emptied out space with the strength and love of Goddess / God. We are also able to connect with the transcendent aspect of the Divine that is expressed in the Sea of Stars, as well as the sacred presence of Goddess/God that lays at the centre of the soul. - Wards Here is the magickal/spiritual protection that is woven around a person, place, or thing. Wards, also known as shields, are built and maintained in layers. Within the context of Wiccan Magick we weave the energies of the 5 sacred Elements, the Great Goddess, the Great God, as well as personal totem spirits. Such spirits can serve as Watchers, who warn when danger or problems threaten, and/or as active protectors. Wards can be anchored to physical things such as trees or the silver pentagram that many Wiccans/Pagans wear 24/7. - Focus The ability to bring one’s mind and Will/will-power into alignment on a single thought. Regular meditation is the best way to develop and to maintain this skill. Within magick when you can refine a magickal goal to a single rune/symbol it is easier to maintain focus . - Attunement The ability to align ones energies so that they are in harmony with a specific and desired energy pattern. When we are working magick we need to take the energy patterns of our local environment into account. We seek to also move in harmony with the cycle of the Moon as well as the cycle of the seasons. Magick is a lot like water and electricity as it flows best along the paths of least resistance. Therefore we attune ourselves with the energy patterns, so that our magick flows smoothly towards our goal. **Fyre Star**
