Let me share with you some reasons why we can know that the 12 tribes of Israel were not black (although there undoubtedly are black people who descended from the tribe of Judah, as a result of Solomons many foreign wives.) First of all--3 different skull types. Noah had 3 sons with him on the ark. After the flood, everyone settled in the area of Babylon (plain of Shinar), and they soon commenced to build the Tower of Babel, under the leadership of Nimrod. There God confused their languages, and they scattered in different directions. It is probably fair to assume that different families / tribes shared a common language. The people dispersed throughout the globe. 3 sons of Noah. 3 different lineages. It seems that Japheth went north, Ham went south, and Shem stayed in the Middle East. As these 3 groups moved, they became more inbred, leading to the 3 distinct skull types we see today: Negroid (descendants of Ham), Mongoloid (descendants of Japheth), and Caucasoid (descendants of Shem). Today, the descendants of Japheth are the orientals, and the native North and South American Indians. The descendants of Ham are black and predominantly in Africa. The descendants of Shem are in the Middle East and Europe / America. Of course there has been intermarriage and mixing of bloodlines too. We know that Abraham was descended from Shem. Why I know that Abraham was not black is a matter of deduction. First of all, Abraham had eight sons. Ishmael (Saudis, Arabs), Isaac (Grandfather of the 12 tribes), and 6 who he sent away to the east (Arabs). The Arabs are not black, so it is doubtful that the 12 tribes were. But lets go further. Isaac had two sons--fraternal twins: Esau and Jacob (father of the twelve tribes). Esaus descendants are the Edomites (Palestinians and Southern Jordanians). These people are not black. Therefore we know that Isaacs children were not black either. (Isaacs wife was of the same family as Abraham--not a black woman from somewhere else.) The Semites (Caucasoids) are all over the Middle East, not blacks. Therefore we know that Abraham (who was the ancestor of a great many of them) was not black either, else it would be black people that would be all over the Middle East. Instead, most of the black people live(d) in Africa. The final reason we know they are not black is because of the blessings (prophecies) that Jacob spoke over the heads of the 12 tribes. There are NO 12 tribes of blacks that have attained to the level of blessing, or tribal characteristics given in Genesis 49. (Keep in mind that Gen. 49:1 says these descriptions will fit the tribes in the last days.) The twelve tribes of Israel are Caucasoid nations--prominent, successful, powerful, richly populated, and blessed nations, in keeping with Gods promise to Abraham. . . . I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies (Gen. 22:17) God keeps His promises. The tribes of Israel are not withered, hidden, defeated, unknown, little barbarian tribes in some remote corner of a jungle. Before I say the last thing--and lest you take offense, please know that I am not a racist, and that in Christ there is no racial distinction. The reason the blacks have had a very hard go of it, and have often been slaves, is because they are under the curse that Noah spoke over his grandson Ham: And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. (Gen. 9:25-27) I do not condone slavery or exploitation, curse or no curse. Just because someone is under a curse does not make it ok to take advantage of them. The one who exploits others will also be judged. I merely share this by way of explanation and clarification. When we substitute the three skull types into this passage, we see that this curse has indeed come to pass--like it or not. And he said, Cursed be [Negroid]; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of [Caucasoid]; and [Negroid] shall be his servant. God shall enlarge [Mongoloid / Oriental], and he shall dwell in the tents of [Caucasoid]; and [Negroid] shall be his servant. Some whites have felt this is a divine mandate to take blacks as their slaves. I disagree. (And as far as that goes, there was slavery in Africa among the blacks before the Europeans came along. The Europeans bought their black slaves from other black tribesmen.) Speaking of curses, and another persecuted people (the Jews), this is why THEY have had such a hard time. They pronounce a curse upon themselves! When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children. (Matt. 27:24-25) While it may be a disappointment to learn you may not be a blood descendant / member of the 12 tribes, there is no cause for grief. All Christians are grafted into the promises of Abraham. The inheritance is a SPIRITUAL inheritance. We have been pardoned and given eternal life.
