Let me take a few moments (and very few) to respond to a totally absurd story, printed in today’s NY Post. This so called “story”, written by Melissa Klein, is bereft of facts, full of intimations and devoid of journalistic ethics. As the Rockland territory salesperson, I responded to a request for bid (RFB) that the firm I worked for received from the Rockland County Solid Waste Authority (RCSWA). After assessing the matter, the FIRST thing I did was request a legal opinion from the RCSWA which clearly shows my private sector dealings with the RCSWA prior to January 1, 2014 were totally appropriate and is on file. The reporter was informed of this by the RCSWA Executive Director. My former employer was advised by counsel that no actual or perceived conflict of interest was presented by either my position on the RCSWA board or as a security sales executive. Moreover, there is additional language affirming that “no conflict” ruling under Authority Budget Office Policy (March, 2007), with both rulings that the reporter conveniently ignored in an effort to engage is baseless sensationalism. While other board members routinely vote on matters that bring millions of dollars to the entities they are employed by, the reporter focuses on an item I never voted on nor benefited from. To buy this nonsensical story, one must believe that as a salesman who sold hundreds of thousands of dollars of security equipment that I would do something inappropriate for a $3750 sale? This “logic” is patently absurd. One must ask why the focus is not on the person who stole records from the RCSWA files and then misrepresented the truth behind those files, as all the backup opinions were contained therein. This is nothing more than an attempt of political payback for my upsetting the corrupt political culture found all too often in Rockland. In an effort to move past what could have become an unnecessary distraction for my new Administration, I had taken the extraordinary step of transparency and provided all relevant information to the New York Post to expose this as a political stunt. Of course, the reporter chose to ignore that.
