Let me tell you a story about man named Stan, The guitar player - TopicsExpress

Let me tell you a story about man named Stan, The guitar player in this Rosewood band. His parents got together and finally agreed To bring the boy into the world in 1963. (Flower child. Born in the sixties. Explains a lot.) So we all got together on this very special day To eat some cake and maybe drink a beer or cabernet. We all know why we’re gathered here, it’s elementary, ‘Cause Stan’s been around for a half a century. (50 years, that is, five decades, 600 months.) It’s been a long climb to the top of the hill, And now the time has come for him to kick it back and chill. To pick a little guitar, sing a song or three, And try to figure out where he put his car keys. (3 things go after you turn 50 - your memory and.......Can’t remember the other 2.....) When you turn 50 there’s some things you never knew, Like your back goes out more often than you do. And what a shock to learn about a school mate that he saw: His girlfriend is half his age and it ain’t against the law. (Oughta be. He’s ugly. And he ain’t even rich.) 50 has a way of sneaking up on you. You start doing things that you didn’t used to do. Knee socks with sandals, colors all wrong, Knowing all the words to the elevator songs. (Dead giveaway. Certified old-timer.) He’s started having achy joints and wrinkles on his skin And getting out of bed is just a pain in his rear end. His knees are getting shaky, his vision’s all but shot, Getting lucky means he found his car in the parking lot. (Used to mean something else. Can’t remember.) Stan got a hearing aid and bragged about its worth Said it was the finest, most expensive on this earth. He said besides its features, it was also mighty purty. I asked him, “What kind is it?” He said, “‘Bout 8:30.” (Has to read music. Can’t play by ear.) But wait just a minute, perhaps I have been cold. Maybe age 50 ain’t really all that old. ‘Cause despite how painful turning 50 might be, The truth is you’ll always be younger than me. (Stan. Nice young man. Just a kid, really. Happy Birthday, my friend!)
