“Let not our longing slay the appetite of our living.” You might say the past year or so has been a season of pruning for me. A season of learning more about “thanking God for what is given, and not allowing the NOT-GIVEN to spoil it.” It all seems to be coming to a pinnacle now, as at the end of the week, I’ll be turning 50. Yep – it’s a number that will soon apply to me. I’ve officially entered the land of black balloons. It’s ironic that in all the years I’ve been on Facebook, I’ve never had my birthday set up to be posted – but somehow this year it’s already been announced. This year of all years. I wasn’t sure I was ready to share this with the world, but when you get pushed to the edge of the cliff, what else is there to do, but fly? So here I go. One thing I’ve come to realize is that 50 is a gift. And the best thing I know to do with a gift is to accept it graciously – and then run with it! So whatever 50 may bring, my plan for the year is to focus on blessings and do my best to glorify the giver of all good gifts. To make sure the people in my life know how much I love them. To be generous with all I have, and to keep on dancing whenever I get the chance. To climb on the back of my horse more often and let her run for as long as I can stay on the saddle. It all boils down to this – it’s time to live like I’m dying. Because when it comes right down to it, aren’t we all?
