Let the research begin! The Wooly Worm Net has started a scientific research project. Not that there is a lot of science involved or that any of us wooly worms know a lot about science but everyone who wants to sell snake oil these days wants to be data driven so we figured, since we can get the vast majority of our data while we are driving that must be what they mean and and then we can call it research and, possibly, get a federal grant at some point since our project involves climate change which is what all of us old timers used to call seasons. Anyway here is the question we will be researching for the next month. Is there, as grandaddy used to claim, a relationship between the number of fog days in August and the number of snow days during the winter? Our methodology is simple. Each morning while on the way to work, (this is where the driving the data comes in) or, alternately if it is not a work day, sitting on the porch with our morning coffee, we will take highly accurate observations of the conditions of atmospheric condensation at low altitudes. We could just say we will look to see if its foggy but you cant get as much research money for foggy and you can for atmospheric condensation. We will then come on here an post our observations as a comment to this thread. That will give us a record to compare to when we make our winter observations of the number of chronological periods of crystallized precipitation (which are worth more research dollars than if we said snow days) to see if there really is a connection. At any rate, since the Wooly Worm Net is open to all persons licensed to conduct non-commercial radio telecommunications operations (Again, using this term in stead of saying ham radio to help up our chance for federal dollars) we invite all such persons to post their observations here as well. PS, If we do get a federal grant for this it will be deposited to the club treasury and used to pay for pizza at the next field day.
