Let your gaze fall on this beautiful monster. Bask, in the awesome power that is THE KING from Deans Diner on South King Street in Newtown. Admittedly my sample of this fine burger is looking a little worse for wear after being transported to my home a couple of suburbs away. Here, you can see two beef patties. Double cheese, double bacon, pineapple, egg, lettuce, tomato and beetroot. Surely the pinnacle of old school, takeaway shop hamburgers. No fancy meat stylings here. Spying the uncooked patties tonight they looked to be good quality topside beef with a decent amount of all important fat in the minced beef. Definitely well seasoned, you can taste delicious beef in every bite of this burger. Offered your choice of sauces, I always opt for BBQ. The bacon is cooked just right, the egg has a hard but not dry & powdery yolk and the pineapple is caramelised just enough. It might not look it, but this burger offers a balance of flavours in every bite. And, in spite of being taken away and the bun having time to absorb all kinds of moisture this burger held together quite well. Its a bit messy, but there was no major structural failing save for a piece of beetroot falling out. I should mention that I have big hands & a bigger mouth though. Setting me back $18.50 with chips, this is easily one of the best burgers going in Newtown. Its one of nigh on twenty different burgers on their menu! The shakes here are also worth a slurp.
