Lets support the Climate Walk! (arrival in Putiao, Sorsogon - Oct. 23, 2014 WHY THE CLIMATE WALK? The vision of the Climate Walk is a more just, fair, equitable, and caring world. Its mission is to build a global movement that can open the eyes of world leaders and governments on the reality of inequity, poverty, and the planetary crisis. Specifically, the international call to action involves demanding all countries to finalise a fair, ambitious, meaningful, and equitable global agreement on climate change by 2015. The overall objective of Climate Walk is to drive momentum for grassroots social action that would strengthen global public opinion on climate change and provide the push for countries to finalise a fair, equitable, ambitious, and durable new climate agreement in 2015 in Paris. Why are we walking? What can the walk specifically achieve after 40 days? LOCAL - To share knowledge between experts and communities featuring solution-based action points; transfer of Climate Resiliency Toolkit to local policymakers. Ensure commitment from LGU officials to craft their own Local Climate Change Action Plan by December 2015. NATIONAL - To secure commitments from national government to craft climate- resilient policies, and ensure full implementation of current climate- related laws (ie. PSF) INTERNATIONAL - To call on world leaders to craft a legally-binding climate deal by COP December 2015 in Paris, by assisting and ensuring that the Philippine Delegation is accountable to its Filipino constituents in maintaining its influence in the call for climate justice. PUBLIC - To bring attention to the plight of climate-impacted, vulnerable communities and deepen people’s understanding on climate change and its relevant issues, towards to the call for climate justice. Climate Walk is a walk of the people—a united and consolidated effort—towards climate justice. As the walk progresses, it is anticipated that many more will join. Naderev “Yeb” Saño, lead negotiator of the Philippines to international climate negotiations, has committed to join the entire duration in his capacity as a Commissioner of the Climate Change Commission, and urge fellow leaders to ‘walk the talk’. Climate Walk is envisioned as one of the most significant non-violent actions to highlight the climate crisis.!
