Lets talk about food for a minute... Now me, I love me some food. So I took a look at the definition of food: Food is any nourishing substance that is eaten, drunk, or taken into the body to sustain life, provide energy, and promote growth. Does Jesus do that for you? In John 6:47-48 Jesus says He is the Bread of Life, and anyone who believes will have eternal life. The word believe in the Greek (pisteuo) means to be fully persuaded of, as in having a deep conviction that cannot be shaken, and to trust in Jesus as able to aid in the ability to obtain or do something. -Do you believe (are you fully convinced) that He is the bread of life? Now, food is more or less solid rather than liquid form. Is your foundation on Jesus being your Lord and Savior solid, or have you more or less water down what youve bin persuaded of? Now lets talk about bread for a moment... Me and my best friend Armelle Carmen love us some bread. Why is that? Bread is filling, it has sustenance and is all you need when there is nothing else. It has carbohydrates that turn into sugar which give you energy to go about your day. It fuels you. Bread in the Greek is Artos, which means food composed of flour mixed with water and then baked. It can be defined as food of any kind, but dictionary defines it as food or sustenance, livelihood (a means of supporting ones existence); necessary food and nourishment. The Israelites made bread in the form of an oblong or round cake as thick as ones thumb and as large as a plate/platter, hence it was not to be cut but broken. Jesus body was broken on the Cross for us. Is Jesus your food and sustenance, your fill. Is He enough? Lets talk about life real quick... In the Greek, life is translated to the word zoe, which means the absolute fullness of life, both essential and ethical, which belongs to God. Jesus says in John 10:10 that He came so that we may have life, and life to the full. So if your life doesnt belong to God, youre not really living life to the full, but in a perception of life. Youre being deceived by satan, and being deprived of eternal life. Another definition of life in blueletterbible was: -life, real & genuine, a life active and vigorous, devoted to God, blessed, in the portion even in this world of those who put their trust in Christ. So if you truly trust Jesus, you devote your life to Him, and you are active and vigorous about living out the dream of Jesus according to His word (matt 28:18-20). I love how it uses the word blessed, which can often be mistaken for the physical things, but in the original Greek it means superlatively happy! This comes from walking according to the law of the Lord, keeping Gods statutes, and seeking God with all of your heart. (psalm 119:1-2) There is a devotion to God and a relationship established, and thus the by-product (not the goal) is happiness :) Are you Christ consumed? In john 6:53 Jesus says, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. You gotta be consumed with Jesus, He is soul food: He refreshes the soul, or nourishes and supports it. When you do this you remain in Jesus, and He will remain in you. And to remain means to abide (meno- Greek) -to never depart, continue to be present, to be held and kept; not to perish, to last, to endure, and survive. -to remain as one, not to become another or different than, to wait for Are you feeding on Jesus? Are you being nourished by His word, does it serve as food for you? Matthew 4:4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on EVERY word that comes from the mouth of God.’ -this aint no buffet: dont just be eating all you WANT to eat, but eat all you NEED, and you need it ALL. EVERY bit of Gods word. Deuteronomy 8:3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. -sometimes we need to be humbled to recognize how much we really need God and to be fed by His word each day Is Jesus a meal for you, does He fill you up, or are you snackin on Him, thus looking for more to eat to supplement? Are you off ones feed when it comes to Jesus? which is slang for reluctant to eat or without appetite, sad, or not well (sick) Jesus should be what nourishes, sustains, nurtures, supports, and encourages us. If youre starving, dig into the Word and let Jesus fuel you!
