There has been much in the media about Brittany Maynard, a 29 year old woman who is terminally ill with brain cancer. Recently she has decided to embrace Oregons Death with Dignity Act. Instead of allowing her illness to dictate her quality of life, she has decided to make the difficult decision of when she would like to pass on. Death with Dignity allows individuals who are ill and of a sound mind to chose when they would like to move forward, not allowing their illness to control their fate. As someone who has witnessed people I love be consumed by their illness and not have the choice to make such a decision, I fully support such an Act. I think patients should have a say in how they would like to leave this world and do so in a humane and dignified manner. Having this type of choice allows those who are ill time to say and do the things they wish in a suitable fashion. It should be their choice not to suffer. I also recommend How to Die Oregon. This documentary is extremely insightful and allows you to see both sides of this controversial topic. (Netflix) (this post dedicated to Cody Curtis)
