Let’s pause, and take a moment to bring our attention to the simple act of walking, based on instructions in the article linked to below. You can do this basic exercise outside, on a path, or in whatever room you happen to be in. As long as there is enough space for you to take a step, you can participate. Begin by acknowledging your intention and your commitment to cultivating mindfulness through this practice. Keep your pace slow enough that you really notice the shift of weight and the gradations of pressure that happen from one foot to the other. Start to notice the details of the experience. Notice that when the foot is lifted up, muscles may be working in your side. Observe how the foot glides across the surface of the ground, how the foot hangs before you shift and place it on the ground. Follow that sequence: lifting, stepping, shifting—lifting, stepping, shifting.
