Lewis is named Records executive editor Deep knowledge, wealth of experience cited MIDDLETOWN — Barry Lewis, longtime regional editor and columnist, and more recently interim executive editor, on Friday was named executive editor of the Times Herald-Record. Joe Vanderhoof, Record president and publisher, made the announcement in a midday staff meeting with newsroom employees. Barry has a deep knowledge of our area and all the communities we serve, said Vanderhoof. He also brings a wealth of experience to this new role, with over 25 years of newsroom management experience, which include 15 years here at the Record. Lewis, 54, replaces Derek Osenenko, who resigned in May to become the chief executive officer of the Kingston-based Trends Research Institute. In remarks to the staff, Lewis said community journalism would remain the driving force behind the Record. He also noted the passion of his two predecessors, Mike Levine and Osenenko, and will play off their strengths to expand the print and digital platforms of the newspaper. I cant think of a greater opportunity. I believe in the integrity, passion and grit of this newspaper and so look forward to working with a talented group of journalists, he said. Vanderhoof said, Barry is moving into this new leadership position at an exciting time of change and growth for the Record and the entire readership area we serve every day. For these reasons and many more I have full confidence Barry will continue to improve the Record for our readers and advertisers. Lewis came to the Record in 1999 after serving as city editor of The Advocate in Stamford, Conn. and editor of The Chronicle in Windham, Conn. He previously was editor of the daily Tri-State Gazette in Port Jervis. Lewis is the author of From Brooklyn to Bucolic, a collection of his award-winning weekly columns. He said he will continue to write his weekly column. He and his wife, Bonnie, live in the Town of Neversink. They have three sons, Sean, Daniel and Dustin.
