Life Isnt Fair: Its hard not to think that life isnt fair, - TopicsExpress

Life Isnt Fair: Its hard not to think that life isnt fair, especially when Im having serious problems with my allergies again. And, I dont mean something slight like a sniffle or a couple of sneezes. No, I suddenly come down with all the full blown symptoms of a cold, including the very unpleasant intestinal issues, as if someone flipped a switch. In fact for years, I just assumed I periodically had mini colds that lasted 2-4 days and then I was suddenly fine. One day, I mentioned to a doctor how I suffered such short colds and he speculated that I was just having an allergic reaction. Even when I brought up how my joints hurt and my body felt cold and clammy, the physician just pointed out that such outcomes did happen from allergies. Of course, knowing that Im suffering from an allergic reaction instead of a cold doesnt really change my situation, but it does give me hope that Ill recover sooner rather than later. It started this time on a Saturday morning. Id felt fine all day Friday, and had stayed up late fiddling around on the computer. I turned off the alarm clock, and slept in until just before noon when I awoke sneezing, coughing, and feeling my elbows and knees throb with a cold pain. My nose was running like an open tap, but my head was so congested that I could only breathe through my open mouth. After going downstairs to take some cold medicine, I went back upstairs and lingered in a very hot bath with Epsom salt scented with lavender and Eucalyptus. The soak seemed to ease my body aches somewhat, but I still quickly dressed in multiple layers of sweatpants, flannel pants, and more sweatpants, along with a t-shirt, sweatshirt, another sweatshirt, topped with a heavy sweater. My ankles felt a little better when I put on regular tight cotton socks, then thick wool socks with really big lumberjack wool sock on top. Unfortunately, my feet were now so big that I couldnt wear my regularly very loose house slippers. Fortunately, I found a pair of slippers that had always been too big to comfortably wear or keep on while walking that now were fairly snug but doable. I could not entertain the idea of eating, but make myself a big mug of tea. All the activity so far had worn me out so much that I sat down on the couch and dozed off. Later when I woke up, I made more tea and sat out front for 15 minutes wearing a down jacket with a big blanket wrapped around my legs, so Niven could patrol the street activity from the gate. The sun was shining, but I couldnt stop shivering and used up almost half of a family sized Kleenex box by blowing my nose. I couldnt escape the feeling that finely sifted talcum powder was slowly spilling down my throat, which generated long extended coughing fits that only enflamed my lungs. Finally I gave up and came inside, and after taking some more cold medicine, both my Scottie and I tromped back upstairs to go to bed. Somehow I made it through the weekend, and while Monday morning came with my head clear and only slight coughing, the residual aftermath of all the cold medicine had me running on extremely low cell power. I made it to work, and managed to get some things done in three hours, but then gave up and went back home to sleep most of the day and into the evening. I woke up a little before midnight to putter around for short of two hours before going back to bed. Tuesday morning I awoke feeling marvelous, and stayed that way until Thursday afternoon when two of my employees came into my office to ask me a question. Suddenly, as if theyd tracked in something unholy, I started sneezing uncontrollably. My eyes started to water, and my nose ran like a great dam had broken loose. Before the hour was up, Id already finished one box of Kleenex and was well on my way through another box. I made it into work on Friday, but it was total misery, plus three more boxes of Kleenex. At the end of the day, I stopped by the base Commissary to buy enough family sized Kleenex to cover my house - one for the counter in the kitchen, one for the living room, one for the downstairs bathroom and another at the bottom of the stairs, one for by the bed and another for the counter between the bed and the bathroom. Naturally, I put two Kleenex boxes by the computer, and one in the upstairs bathroom. And, although I didnt feel like I would be driving anywhere over the weekend, I put a Kleenex box in the car. Also, while at the store I bought a bottle of super duper allergy medicine that was so powerful, the instructions are full of cautions that only one pill within a 24 hour period should be taken. So, I took a pill Friday night, and then went to bed. When I awoke on Saturday just shy of 2:00 in the afternoon, I took another pill, and slept off and on throughout the rest of the day and into the night. On Sunday, I took another pill and my head started to clear up sometime late in the afternoon. Of course, Im not sure if the pills did anything, or if my mini cold was just finishing up. Im not sure if it was just a coincident that I started sneezing and coughing when my employees came in or if I was allergic to something they were wearing or scuffed into my office. Im glad that Im finally feeling better, and hope that my wellbeing continues, but do have a terrifying thought - what if Im allergic to my employees?
