Life in Lima - Cusco. Impressions; of a hard sun, thin air and exhilarating cold, of very steep narrow streets of cobblestone, of the sweetest little hole in the wall restaurants and shops and pretty mountain girls manning them, of the Andean people in brightly colored knits peddling their wares on the streets, of the backpackers with their maps, of the tourist with his water bottle, of the hippie with his ponytail and weed, of the shamanic and catholic imagery, of the land of the spirits and the worshippers of the earth and sky, of the ayawasca retreats, of the grand plaza surrounded by smaller plazas and churches that seem to attract more tourists than the people of faith, of the Spanish balconies where men & women sit drinking, of the streets and surrounding mountains slowly lighting up, of the silence of the mountain that envelopes the city with the descending darkness against the backdrop of ringing bells.
