Wow... practiced on Friday, Sunday (today), then on Tuesday and Thursday... getting ready for the gig on the 24th. I dont think Ive ever sung this close together this many times. As I said before the issue is, this is not normal singing or the way I normally sing. What Im trying to do here is take on the hardest songs to sing in metal. Most people cant even imagine doing what Im doing; that is, fronting a DIO cover band. Its basically like, are you kidding me? You think you can step up to that?. For some reason DIO is the most intimidating singer of them all. Many people can do Bruce Dickinson or Rob Halford but when you say DIO they shake in their boots! Really! Im saying all this because what Im trying to do is take on something even a PRO level vocalists like Joey Belladonna or Ripper Owens has fumbled with. For instance the Neon Knights song is not easy. I was exchanging emails with a metal vocal coach who I got friends with because he saw DIO put down the vocals to an album.. Yeah, he got to sit and watch!!! And I asked him about Neon Knights and he told me dude, you kidding me.. Neon Knights is a hard song to sing and told me that even he cant sing it without being super warmed up and when he does he cant make it sound full like DIO. Anyway you can watch me take on that song at Winstons show if you havent. It is in the youtube section of this page! That part bloodied angels fast descending.. thats right in the passaggio for most people. Let me put it to you this way... even Joey Belladonnas voice quivers when sings that part! The only person who did that part right was Rob Halford but he sang it thin with out a heavy bottom resonant sound like DIO. So the notes arent hard to hit but to hit it with a full voice is no joke.. cause or else itll sound whimpy. I barely pulled it off at Winstons at the last show; looking back now it could have been more resonant! Im just letting you know what Im up against... you gotta have some balls and some ego to even claim that you can sing DIO songs... let alone take it on live!
