Light = endless surprises! Our Watts of Love team just discovered that our light has been being used for the past several months to aid the residents of a leper colony in a region that is subject to frequent power outages throughout the day. In the absence of a reliable source of light prior to receiving our solar lantern, the healthcare partners and clinicians were once forced to diagnose patients and dress wounds in small, dark spaces. “It is really very helpful because there are a lot of power cuts here, for nearly six hours out of the day, and it’s helpful while dressing (wounds) is going on,” said Sarah Abraham Soujanya, a care partner who tends to the colony residents. “Thank you very much for your help and support. The light which was given by you is so helpful…at all our clinics when there is no power.” Since obtaining their reliable solar lantern, these superheroes that serve the vulnerable people in this colony have been able to aid those in need more efficiently and have extended a greater medicine than what can be housed in the contents of a bottle—the dream of increased HOPE. At Watts of Love, our creed is that HOPE stands for and promotes heightened Health, Opportunity, Power and Education, and we are honored to know that our solar lights have made such a positive impact in the lives of the poorest of the poor they have touched in this region of India. We were also thrilled to learn that when our light is not in use at these clinics, the care partners lend it to other organizations in need, including the nearby Joy House orphanage and to several churches that lead evening worship services. “The light which you gifted to us is really a great blessing (that) we’ve never seen like this (before)!” said local Pastor Nandkumar Nahum Tadigoppula. “Our church is in slum areas, and regularly, we use it to have cottage prayer meetings in the evening when the people come back to (their) homes from their day work. It is helping us greatly!” Both Sarah and Pastor Nahum have expressed an urgent need for more lights to be distributed to remote villages to serve more patients and pastors struggling with inconsistent electricity. “God bless you for this wonderful gift,” said Pastor Nahum. “We pray that, if possible, you will be even more of a blessing to many of God’s servants like me.” Show your support of the mission to eliminate poverty by illuminating lives and donate to deliver more solar light relief to those in need in India today. $40 lights a life and helps raise vulnerable families out of poverty by empowering them to earn more money, save toward obtaining essential items and completely eliminating dependence on lethal kerosene while extending opportunities that would not be possible without the compassionate support of our donors.
