Like it or not, we all need counselors to help us through times of temptation, testing, trials and tragedy. We want to make sense of suffering, of grief, of pain, of death. None of us can fully make sense and explain everything that is happening because Gods thoughts and ways are higher than ours. Spiritual leaders, counselors, coaches, and priests may help, but only for a while. There is, however, one man, a high priest who meets our need - one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. (Hebrews 7:26) A high priest who is able to sympathize with our weaknesses, one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are - yet was without sin. (Hebrews 4:15) A high priest who offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him. (Hebrews 5:7-9). This high priest says: If you love Me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever - the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you. (John 14:15-17) Take a look at the nameless people whove been extending help these days. Some of them were victims of calamity and recipients of relief at least once. They know how hard it was, they know how it felt to be rescued. They know what it meant to survive, to overcome. And now they live to tell their story and they are helping others. He is one who, because he lives forever, has a permanent priesthood. He is one who is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. (Hebrews 7:24-25). He, however, is not a nameless person. He was never a victim; he offered himself (Hebrews 7:27) but he suffered and died as though he was, because of His great love for us. He is Jesus, the Son of God, who was, who is and who is to come. He is the Great High Priest, the Counselor, the Savior, the Living God that all of us need. And He is MORE THAN ENOUGH.
