Like many kids my age, growing up in Lockport in the 1950s meant playing in the grade school band. I attended Ludwig school and we had a great band program under the direction of Mr. David Habley, a temperamental little tyrant who had a knack for bringing out the best in every one of his students. We won lots of awards for both marching as well as concert band. Heres a picture of my buddy, Terry Cokeing, and me in 1958 showing off our medals. The other is a photo of the Ludwig band marching in the Lockport High Homecoming parade. Thats me on the left, carrying my baritone. In my opinion, the Lockport High bands that earned national acclaim were a result of the hard work of the elementary band directors in Lockport. Did you play in the band in grade school and which school did you attend?
