Lil Kida aka Kida the Great started blowing up in a Vine posted all over Facebook in the last couple weeks. The Vine was thrilling but bad res and way too short. This is the full battle. Kidas first round starts 58 seconds in, and what follows is one solid minute of chills as this kid embodies the track hes dancing too--the instrumental version of OG Bobby Johnson by Que (though really, since its just the backing track, its by the German producer Bobby Johnson who is NOT the same Bobby Johnson Que is rapping about--there are layers here). Back to Kida. Hes twelve now and has been dancing for years. this battle was his first public performance since his father died earlier in the year. He was on Queen Latifahs show a few days ago with his mom (one more bounce from the fame --and hits and like-- this performance has gotten him) who told the story of their horrible year. Oh my god what a charming kid. The dance has the power of that heartbreak behind it too. He was possessed by it and exorcising it. An important moment in the culture. And we care about the culture at Philly AIDS Thrift. Our shelves are covered with it!
