Liqui-Moly Australia Bathurst 12 Hour stars have done a superb job in the Spa 24 Hour race this weekend, with Rene Rast and Laurens Vanthoor (5th this year for Phoenix Racing GmbH) and Markus Winkelhock (6th for United Autosports) combining in a Team WRT Audi R8 LMS Ultra to grab the victory by just 7s over the Marc VDS racing BMW. Double Bathurst 12 Hour champion Christopher Mies finished third in the sister WRT Audi and while Bernd Schneider didnt get a result, he did set the quickest lap in his SLS AMG GT3. Meanwhile, current 12-hour champion Craig Lowndes joined fellow race regulars Steve Wyatt and Michele Rugolo, and Andrea Piccini, to take third in ProAm and 8th overall in the AF Corse Ferrari 458. Unfortunately, electrical issues forced the JBS Lamborghini out of the race at the 13-hour mark - but they showed their capabilities: It was a strong performance by Roger Lago, David Russell, Steven Richards and Steve Owen up to that point. Late issues, including a puncture, dropped the Black Falcon SLS AMG driven by Erebus Motorsport GT star Richard Muscat to 34th at the end of the race, but had ran as high as 19th with 4 hours to go.
