Listen carefully to Luke’s Gospel today as we encounter the two disciples on their way to Emmaus. At first, they did not realize the stranger in their midst was the Risen Jesus. Afterwards, the remark: “Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us?” When has your heart burned within you? Perhaps it was hearing a Scripture passage or a Homily. Perhaps it was when you were gazing at the night sky, or seeing a newborn baby. Recognizing that the yearning and burning is Christ – pray that we may open our hearts and our eyes to see the Risen Lord amongst us.
