Listening to Paul Simons Rhythm of the Saints, which Ive always - TopicsExpress

Listening to Paul Simons Rhythm of the Saints, which Ive always liked, although I know its supposed to be Gracelands poor relative. But Ive just now had this strange epiphany: is the child in The Obvious Child supposed to be Christ? The cross is in the ballpark and so on ... the renewal and redemption from those hemmed in by the tangle of the past (Sonny sits by the window and thinks to himself/How its strange that some roots are like cages) and the broader mundaneness of our boxed-in-a-room existences: Ive been waking up at sunrise Ive been following the light across my room I watch the night receive the room of my day Some people say the sky is just the sky But I say Why deny the obvious child? Im a bit surprised this reading has never occurred to me before.
