Listening to the Word: The Covenant Deuteronomy 26:17-19 “You have declared this day that the Lord is your God and that you will walk in his ways, that you will keep his…commands…and that you will obey [his voice] him...the Lord has declared this day that you are his people, his treasured possession as he promised…he will set you in praise, fame and honour.” Our primary call is to obey God’s word and follow his ways. As we do that, God loves, delivers and honours us. This promise is carried forward in the new covenant as God declares we are his treasured possession, a holy nation and a people belonging to God. Our call is to obey his voice (“my sheep know my voice”), keep his commands and walk in his ways. The power of the Holy Spirit is given through Jesus to enable us to do what God commanded us. The covenant with God is always two-way. Both parties have obligations and blessings. Father, thank you for your favour and blessing in my life. I choose to follow your ways and obey your voice and Word today.
