Listening to the radio in the evening ... Im hearing a lot of people across the country are rioting... When has rioting ever accomplished anything for anyone? Ive heard the ghetto fly do at least fifteen (15) low fly-bys over little-ol east El Cajon, right before Thanksgiving. Its well past midnight... But you wont often hear about when state sanctioned actions are a nuisance, inconvenient, or unnecessary. The state is allowed to nit-pick over a few feet of intrusion of a red line to give a traffic infraction, but God-forbid the public be as observant of the states actions and self-regulation. Youre right, its much more effective when youre the establishment and system being rioted against, and the status quo is what things will return back to. Pesky rioters, affecting property values briefly for an ideology thats been semi-permanent and invisible. When will they learn the only way to affect power is to have an organized system which supports your opinions and enforces your will at the barrel of a gun? So much easier to already have the support of psychological intimidation disguised as security. When workers are upset with working conditions, they unionize, they strike. Its inconvenient, but its not the customers decision whether or not its the best, most peaceful option. I recall a time when police would join picket lines. When a significant segment of the general population is upset with social conditions, expect the general order of society to be disrupted. Its inconveniencing for some, but as those who are not as inconvenienced to be driven to such degree of action -- its not up to us to say how they should channel their frustrations! It would be great to see organized action out of these circumstances. It would be great to see community building result from community misrepresentation/inequality. If this could significantly contribute to the ranks of the current Black Panther movement, that would be great. Some of these people havent had the opportunities presented to them, and are in a socio-economic disadvantage and hence act in a disorganized and destructive manner. Those of us who think theres other options have had the privileged and luxury to see an alternative(s), and those of us who dont think an alternative is necessary are ignorant of the structure of our society and the inequalities allowed within it.
