Little Plaid Blog roundup from yesterday: Honoring Billy - by Will Alexander On Thursday in Dandridge, I had the honor to attend the retirement party of Billy Mitchell, a maintenance worker at the county courthouse for thirty-nine years. To show his gratitude, my dad had a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol and it was my honor to present it to Billy in person. The retirement party was overflowing with courthouse employees past and present. Talking to folks in the standing room only crowd, Billy was described as an honest, hard-working public servant who everyone at the courthouse respected. That reminded me of my dad, and I enjoyed seeing Billy’s example inspiring others – he’s not looking for attention and he gets the job done. Not to mention, as one woman at the party exclaimed from the audience, “And he’s a good Republican, too!” Back on the Bus - by Lamar Alexander On Thursday evening I attended an event in Kingsport, my first after briefly leaving the Standing up for Tennessee bus tour to vote against President Obamas immigration proposal. That was an important vote because the president failed to offer a serious plan, but I was glad to be able to return to Sullivan County for tonights event. This is Richard Venable country, and Ron Ramsey country. Its the kind of place that when you say we need to replace Obamacare and repair the damage it has done to our economy and our country, people say Amen! One of the things I talked about was the importance of stopping President Obama from exceeding the executive authority laid out in the U.S. Constitution. President Obama has unilaterally changed his health care law on a regular basis, made recess appointments when the Senate isnt in recess and appointed more czars than the Romanovs had in Russia. Now hes threatening to change immigration laws without regard to constitutional limits on executive authority, and Im fighting to stop him. The Founders didnt want a king, and the American people dont want a president who acts like one. To see the rest of the Little Plaid Blog, click here: lamaralexander
