Liverpool are keen on signing Paris Saint Germain’s France international defender Mamadou Sakho. Brendan Rodgers is keen on bringing in further defensive reinforcements, not least due to recent arrivals Kolo Toure and Aly Cissokho being injured in last night’s League Cup second round match with Notts County, which the Reds won after extra time. Uruguay international Sebastian Coates has been ruled out for the season with an anterior cruciate injury, though Martin Skrtel should be fit for Sunday’s game against Manchester United. Sakho has not featured in any of PSG’s three matches so far this season, though their president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has said that a sale is unlikely, calling him a ‘child of the club’. The 23 year old is unsettled at the Ligue 1 champions, where he has been since he was twelve years old, prompting interest from a number of clubs across Europe, with Liverpool the players preferred choice.
