Local Television Presenter promotes the 33rd Suffolk Historic Churches Bike Ride. Susie Fowler-Watt, the presenter of Look East on BBC Television, got on a bike to help promote this year’s Suffolk Historic Churches Bike Ride, which will be held on 13th September, when churches in and around Felixstowe will be open to receive cyclists, and walkers. Susie is pleased to be able to encourage everyone to take part in this, what is believed to be the oldest and biggest sponsored bike ride in Suffolk, “We’re so lucky to live in a part of the world with so many historic churches, but I know their upkeep is a constant battle,” she said. “This a is wonderful way to raise money for your local church, while having a great day out at the same time.” Thousands of cyclists of all ages, will take part in the bike ride around Suffolk and sponsor forms are now available in Suffolk churches or from the Trust. Riders can also collect sponsorship via Just Giving. The annual ride, which began in Suffolk but has now spread across England, appeals to families, local history lovers, keen cyclists, church supporters and those who just enjoy an annual ride around the villages and towns of Suffolk. Those who prefer can walk around their chosen route. “The ancient churches in Suffolk have survived for over 700 years only because they have been cherished by generations of Suffolk people”, added Patrick Grieve, chairman of the Suffolk Historic Churches Trust Bike Ride. “The Suffolk Historic Churches Trust is dedicated to carrying with this, and the bike ride in September is a good opportunity for you to join in. It is also very healthy, good fun and a marvelous day out”. Riders (or walkers) register with the Local Organiser at a church of their choice and the sponsor money they raise is shared equally between Suffolk Historic Churches Trust (SHCT) and that church. The money raised by over 3000 people who were involved with the Suffolk Historic Churches Sponsored Bike Ride in 2013 was over £145,000. Routes are decided by each cyclist (or walker), incorporating stops at some of over 500 Suffolk places of worship that will be open to receive them. Participants can ride as far or as little as they choose and, if near the county border, can obtain a list of the participating churches in the adjoining county. Riders/walkers can get more details from their SHCT Bike Ride Local Organiser by phoning 01787 883884 or shct.org.uk/
