Local candidates file pre-election finance reports By Bill Rockwell Tribune Reporter The challengers have out-raised the incumbents for both county races in advance of the Nov. 4 election. The deadline for reporting campaign funding was last Thursday with Republican Drew Cannon raising $14,343.64 in contributions and with more than $17,000 in total funds. Cannon is seeking to unseat Democratic incumbent Teresa Stevenson in the race for county auditor. Stevenson has raised less in contributions, $3,855.54, but has also spent much less than Cannon, who has listed more than $14,000 in monetary expenditures compared to Stevenson’s $1,544.57 (as of Oct. 23). Cannon has listed expenditures from the Ceramic Museum, acquired during the summer pottery festival, of $375 and $901.45 to the county Junior Fair Board, which was spent during the week of the county fair. Stevenson’s largest campaign addition came during an Oct. 11 fundraiser in which $996 was raised. In the race for county commissioner, Republican Dave Freriks’ campaign has brought in $3,875 in contributions and had listed $5,825 in funds available as of last Thursday with $4,109.48 in expenditures, mostly campaign literature and signs. Democratic challenger Todd Shafer raised more than $3,000 in monetary contributions, that along with $8,098.38 in other income listed on his Ohio Campaign Finance Report, gave Shafer $11,124.38 in total funds available along with more than $1,300 for in kind contributions listed (as of Oct. 23) and he has spent all of those funds raised. According to the report, Shafer has sponsored various meals for sporting events, including a Crooksville post game meal, plus has spent money on a website and domain name, campaign literature and advertising in area athletic programs and game balls used during high school football games.
