Lok Sabha polls set the momentum for change in JK: Mufti ‘NC’s exploitative politics has reached its dead end;’ Present Govt has turned out to be a misfortune for JK: Karra Srinagar, May 05: (GNS) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said the ongoing Lok Sabha polls have set the momentum for change in Jammu and Kashmir as the people now realize that only PDP can do justice with their mandate for the larger good of the State. “The politics of deceit and exploitation practised by the National Conference, all these years, has reached its dead-end and people have started looking towards PDP as a viable regional alternative,” Sayeed said while interacting with a delegation from Sonawari Assembly segment of Baramulla Parliamentary constituency, who called on him, here today. Sayeed said whether in or outside power, PDP has stood by the people and never compromised their interests unlike others. He said, right from its inception, the party has been advocating the cause of the people of J&K with unflinching consistency. “The most daring challenge for PDP, after winning the 2002 election, was to be with our people, show solidarity with them and give them the much-needed sense of security and relief on developmental front,” he said and added that after assuming power, PDP, unlike others, not only stuck to its pro-people agenda but pursued the same with perseverance and consistency. He said the signposts of performance of the PDP-led government are visible in every nook and corner of the State and people have recognized the same by voting overwhelmingly for the party candidates in south and central Kashmir in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls. Sayeed said the greatest contribution of PDP is that the party through its pro-people policies tried to build people’s stakes in peace and economic prosperity. “This became the fundamental input for the turn-around in the ground situation in J&K in post-2002 era,” he said. Sayeed said unfortunately the anarchist and anti-people policies of the present Government have again started pushing J&K into a gloomy scenario of despair and alienation. “If anything, the present government would be remembered as the darkest era in J&K for facilitating hundreds of innocent killings, letting loose a reign of repression on youth, ordering wanton arrests, perpetuating fear and sense of insecurity, promoting socio-economic instability, frightening increase in crime rate, menacing drug abuse, deaths in road rage, vanishing rule of law, rampant corruption, shocking scams, institutional degradation, misgovernance, dilapidated roads, power shortage, drinking water scarcity, unemployment, maladministration, spurious medicines, frustrating traffic snarls and countless other anti-people measures,” he said. Sayeed complimented PDP cadres for having successfully and effectively carried the party’s political and economic agenda to the grassroots level. “Having sacrificed their personal interests for the larger objective of ensuring peace, dignity and prosperity for the State and its people, the untiring efforts of the PDP cadres have made this party to become a people’s movement of hope,” he said and urged people from across the board to contribute in consolidating this movement for change in the larger interest of J&K’s peace and stability by voting for senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig in north Kashmir. “The people in south and central Kashmir have already delivered their verdict for change, and it’s now for the voters of north Kashmir to take this movement to its logical conclusion,” he said. Speaking on the occasion senior PDP leader and former Finance Minister Tariq Hammed Karra said NC-Congress coalition government headed by Omar Abdullah arrived as the biggest misfortune for the people of Jammu and Kashmir in 2009. He said the hapless people have been subjected to atrocious form of misgovernance, anarchism, corruption, repression and soaring unemployment during the past more than five years of the present regime. Reminding the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of the promises made by him during electioneering for 2008 Assembly elections, Karra asked; “Where have the tall promises on Sadak, Paani, Bijli and Rozgar gone.” Karra said on November 21, 2008, Omar while campaigning in his home constituency Ganderbal had declared that if voted to power his government would work for providing relief to common man by slashing the prices of the essential commodities including electricity. “Besides addressing the issues of unemployment the NC would bring a sigh of relief to Aam Adami battered by soaring prices of commodities. The cost of LPG cylinders would be slashed by Rs 50 and the power tariff would also be lowered drastically besides ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply to the people,” Karra quoted Omar having said. Karra said the slogan of “Meter Hatao Aur Heater Lagao” coined by Omar Abdullah during 2008 electioneering had become very catchy and the time has come for the people to remind the NC leadership of what happened to those promises. Karra said the state’s ruling political elite which is preoccupied with enjoying the luxuries of power while the Aam Aadmi has been forced into all kinds of cruelties and miseries. “The people are fed up with the insensitivity of this self-centered regime and they have responded appropriately to this feeling of utter neglect during the ongoing polls,” he said and added that after south and central Kashmir, people would now give a final push to the movement for change by voting for PDP candidate Muzaffar Hussain Baig.
