Long Island Doctor Pleads Guilty In Pain Killer Deaths A New York physician faces 20 years in prison after admitting he distributed painkillers to people he knew were drug addicts. Federal prosecutors say two of the addicts later died of drug overdoses. William Conway of Baldwin pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges. He admitted knowing that some of those people who got prescriptions had no medical reason for the painkillers. His attorney noted he made no admission linking him specifically to the deaths. Conway, who is 70, faces 20 years in prison. Court documents show that between January 2009 and November 2011, Conway issued 5,554 oxycodone prescriptions – for a total of 782,032 pills. Two of those who received painkiller prescriptions later died of overdoses. Several relatives of those who died attended Thursday’s court proceeding in Central Islip, N.Y.
