Looking ahead to the next 10 days it remains rather unsettled throughout with some strong winds and rain or showers all to come, with of course a few brighter spells in between, especially in Eastern areas. The main attention is focused on this weekend with gale force winds and heavy rain falling on to saturated ground and affecting the whole of the UK. We will initially see some heavy rain affecting England and Wales on Friday, with some gusty winds and a risk of localised flooding. It is then on Saturday and Sunday that wind speeds start to increase, with gusts along Western coastal areas likely to reach 60mph at times, though further inland maximum gusts will be nearer to 40-50mph. After the recent strong winds and with the very wet ground there is still a risk with winds even this strong that a few trees may be uprooted, having already been made weaker by the winds last Sunday and Monday, and these sorts of wind speeds will also cause issues for high sided vehicles. But the main focus is on further rainfall through the weekend, with various bands of rain and showers crossing the country from West to East. It is likely that we will shortly issue a weather watch for the West of the UK in particular due to the ongoing risk of localised flooding. In to the start of the new working week it will be more of the same Im afraid. Some brighter interludes but further showers or longer spells of rain and some strong winds to come.
