Looking for an internship? The Polynesian Voyaging Society is hiring interns for fall! Fall 2014 Hire - PVS Communications Intern Announcing Communications Internships in Support of Hōkūleʻa’s Worldwide Voyage For Immediate Hire Our Hawaiian voyaging canoes, Hōkūleʻa and Hikianalia, are journeying around the world to learn, create global relationships, and explore how to care for our oceans and Island Earth. It is vital that Polynesian Voyaging Society maintain a vibrant connection with partners, community members, students and educators, volunteers, funders, the media, and an expanding local and global network during this historic journey. We are currently building capacity to meet this challenge and we are looking for several qualified individuals to join our ‘ohana. Job Description You will be learning about and providing support in the areas of communications, relationship management and media relations. We are in search of highly organized interns who will support the communications team with strong background in writing, blogging, and social media. Responsibilities ▪ Helping to define public outreach and promotion of the voyage through social media, newsletters, press releases, blog posts, social media, etc. ▪ Build and maintain relationships and correspondence with media outlets and the general public. ▪ Responding to inquiries and comments. ▪ Managing contributors and editing, organizing and disseminating associated content. ▪ Writing media advisories and press releases. ▪ Organizing logistics associated with various aspects of the voyage. ▪ Ensuring communications are true to the theme and values of the voyage. Requirements College students or graduates with a background in communications, english, and/or journalism. Applicants must possess a solid grasp of communication through writing. Can consistently and reliably dedicate no less than 18 hours per week. Preferred: can meet Tues-Thurs in downtown Honolulu. Preferred Qualifications Individuals who are good at, and passionate about writing. High level of organization and attention to detail. Comfortable and knowledgeable in Hawaiian culture and values. Familiarity with local media community. Timeline and Details For immediate hire. Applications are due by Friday, Oct 3.
