Loss of One Fast The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Whoever leaves a fast of Ramadan without a valid (Shari) excuse or illness, cannot make up for the fast (even) if he were to fast for the rest of his life.” [Mishkaat al-Masabeeh] While the bounties and rewards of fasting in Ramadan are countless, leaving a fast without a valid excuse sanctioned by Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) is a major sin. The loss of that one fast is so great that even if the person were to fast for the rest of his/her life they would not be able to make up for what they lost by not fasting that one day in Ramadan.
