Lots of ideas for us to consider. Ultimately its a decision Seth will have to make, we are here to support him but its his decision. :) For those interested the details of our options are below: -getting an injection once a month, which we could get at UCSF of zometa (zoledronic acid) which makes the bones harder, making it more difficult for the cancer to penetrate, and it seems to keep sarcomas out of the lungs. -Sorafenib: oral medicine he can take at home. It has some clinical trials with positive outcome results reducing osteosarcoma tumors and slowing the growth. -do nothing and get PET/CT and SR-90 bone scans every two months to monitor for any further growth and if that happens and its possible-surgery to remove the tumor. -do one of the above mentioned -Sorafenib or Zometa along with the scans. -Sloan Kettering (NY) an Auto immunotherapy clinical trial. Involves intense pain (kids typically on PCA during administration) -the orthopedic surgeon has recommended radiation therapy of Seths left arm. When he removed the first section he found micro tumors under the microscope. Second margin taken and nothing was found but he still feels RT will take care of any micro tumors that may still be lingering. Those who are following know that RT has not been effective in treating osteosarcoma. But today we learned that for micro tumors works. Pretty wild.
