Six miles northwest of Old Station, CA. Timber and brush. Running with torching and long-range spotting. Numerous residences threatened. Evacuations and road closures in effect. Running, torching and long range spotting. Highway 89 closed. Residences threatened and evacuations in progress. August 2, 2014 at 7:35 PM Fire spread is primarily torching and spotting in the morning, transitioning to more extreme fire behavior in the afternoon. This includes group torching, rapid rates of spread and spotting up to 1/2 mile. Eight residences, one commercial property and 20 other minor structures destroyed. Highway 89 remains closed within the fire area. August 2, 2014 at 10:14 AM Governor Brown Secures Fire Management Assistance Grant from FEMA to Assist Fire Agencies Battling Eiler Fire in Shasta County August 2, 2014 at 12:23 AM The Eiler fire started in the Thousand Lakes Wilderness, from a lightning strike. It exploded in size yesterday to 5,500 acres, burning rapidly to the north and east. Residents and visitors are being evacuated from the Wilderness, and from the Hat Creek Valley along Highway 89 from Doyles Corner/Cassel Road south to Rocky Campground.
