Loughborough Students 1-2 Sheffield Hallam Sheffield Hallam came away from Loughborough with all three points after a thoroughly professional performance. Having beaten Loughborough in last seasons Premier division, hope were high to repeat the success. Neither team were able to fashion much in the way of any meaningful chances in the first half. Simon Hujwan in the Hallam goal made one save but even then he wasnt really tested. The teams turned around at half time with the score at 0-0. That was the same score when Hallam Uni played Loughborough earlier this season in BUCS. Hallam had their first real chance at goal after winning a penalty corner early in the second half. Good work by Matt Anderson down the right hand side forced Loughborough in to a mistake. Liam Ansell took full advantage of the opportunity and flicked hard and fast past the home keeper after good work by David Bond. Hallam pressed for a second and were rewarded ten minutes later when GB U21 midfielder, David Goodfield, was able to tee himself up on his reverse stick and crash the ball home. Hallam had the opportunity to extend their lead but good opportunities were wasted whilst Ansell saw his deflection fly high and wide. Loughborough gave themselves hope with a well worked penalty corner of their own, notching a goal with quarter of an hour left. It looked like they may have snatched a point with just five minutes remaining. Another penalty corner was looking to be going in until Tom Sorsby performed what looked like a Dilshan scoop cricket shot on the line. The final whistle blew and Hallam were able to celebrate a hard earned but much deserved victory which moves them up in to third place in the North conference.
