Loughrey calls for better street lighting on by-pass Cllr. Padraig Loughrey has called on the council to look at improving the street lighting along the Longford by-pass. This route has become an important amenity for the public. Many people use it as a walking route and this is something that we should be encouraging. It is a healthy activity and the by-pass offers an important alternative for people who want to get a walk in as part of their daily routine. However, currently the lighting on the road is not sufficient and it must be increased to ensure the safety of all those who use it. Loughrey suggests that the council should immediately assess this area and bring forward costed proposals for the Councils consideration. A number of people have approached me with concerns about the lighting and it is not something that should be overly problematic. There is no point making changes after an incident occurs and our priority should be to prevent such happenings by ensuring the safety and well being of all those who use our public walkways.
