Louise Mclean’s parents and sisters arrived in Australia in 1954 - TopicsExpress

Louise Mclean’s parents and sisters arrived in Australia in 1954 aboard the Anna Salén. They were Vertriebene - displaced person – from Latvia. Starting with her parents’ hand written memories, Louise told their story in a book, she called “A Good Intelligent Type”. She found this handwritten remark of her father on his immigration papers – put there by an immigration official! Louise says: “At some point I plan to have the book available as an E Book, and perhaps as a hard copy as well. . . who knows? At the moment, I am just pleased to have their story told, and that it has been enjoyed by those who have read it.” The photos show Louises parents and sister, Kurt, Anneliese and Astrid Vanag, as refugees in Lubeck; Astrid, Linda, baby Louise with Oma and Opa Vanag outside the foundations of the new house in Essendon; the Anna Salén (formerly known as HMS Archer); and the cover of Louises book..
