And unless we act soon, Washington insiders will get a special exemption that the rest of America won’t. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) made a decision that the government can continue to make an employer contribution to the health plans of congressional members and staff – even though more than eight million Americans will lose their employer coverage. Washington is treating itself like a select ruling class, and it’s outrageous. That’s why I’ve introduced legislation that would require that all Members of Congress, the President, Vice President, and all political appointees in the Administration must purchase their health insurance on the Obamacare Exchange without the help of taxpayer-funded subsidies.
